Dr. Changa Kurukularatne is a specialist in Infectious Diseases, Tropical Medicine and Internal Medicine with two decades’ clinical and research experience. He obtained his Doctorate in Medicine from St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies. Dr. Changa completed his post-graduate training in Internal Medicine at the prestigious Yale University affiliate, Danbury Hospital (Connecticut USA) where he had the honour of serving as Chief Medical Resident and obtained American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) certification in Internal Medicine. Dr. Changa pursued his subspecialty interest in Infectious Diseases at the world-renowned Ochsner Clinic Foundation (New Orleans) where he continued to excel, receiving the all-institution award for the Fellow of the Year and obtaining his second ABIM Board Certification, in Infectious Diseases.

Dr. Changa has worked as a consultant physician in the United States, New Zealand and Singapore, and has held key leadership positions in medical education, infection prevention/control and healthcare administration. Dr. Changa’s clinical expertise includes Critical Care Infections. He has successfully implemented multi-disciplinary infection management programs in Intensive Care Units in several countries. As a medical educator, Dr. Changa has vast experience in curriculum design and implementation, knowledge and aptitude assessment, the use of simulators in education, and the effect of human factors in performance. Dr. Changa has been honoured as a ‘Top-Ten’ medical educator in Singapore, and has received accolades for medical education from the Yale University School of Medicine, the New York Medical College, and the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has worked in advisory capacities to various governments and has worked closely with the World Health Organization (WHO), the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the National Centre for Infectious Diseases (Singapore), and the Regional Emerging Disease Intervention (REDI) Center. Since his return to Sri Lanka, Dr. Changa has contributed towards the government’s and the private sector’s response and management of COVID-19. Dr. Changa is internationally published in a variety of subjects including COVID-19 and dengue fever - two areas where he is considered a global expert.
